NZEI TE RIU ROA maintains a Bereavement Benefit fund payable on the death of a full financial member or provisional member and not in the event of the death of an honorary member or a relative of a full or provisional member.

In 2025, the Primary and Area School Teachers’ Collective Agreements will be renegotiated. Teachers are the kaitiaki of our education system with a proud history of standing together and winning improvements to teaching that improve learning.

The notice period for the resignation of full NZEI Te Riu Roa membership will extend from two weeks to one calendar month from 20 November 2024.

Our strong belief is that the oversight of initial teacher education should be “by the profession, for the profession”. We do not support the proposal from the Minister of Education to move oversight of initial teacher education from the Teaching Council to the Ministry of Education.
