[FAQ] Support Staff subscription rates

01 Jul 2022

What are the subscription rates for annualised and non-annualised support staff members?

Subscription rate brackets are the same for everyone. However, there is a measure in place to ensure that non-annualised support staff are not disadvantaged due to not being paid during holiday periods.

Annualised support staff (or those paid year-round):

Compare your gross fortnightly income to the subscription rate table to determine your subscription rate. You can choose to pay by credit card/direct debit, or EdPay payroll deductions if working at a school.

Non-annualised support staff:

Use the support staff calculator to take your income and spread it across the entire year. This will account for the time during the holidays where you are not paid and result in a lower subscription rate than if you were to compare your gross fortnightly income directly to the subscription rate sheet.

For example, your gross fortnightly income might be $1241.50 (50 hours per fortnight at the rate of $24.83), meaning that if you compared it directly to the subscription rate table, your rate would be $15.02 per fortnight. However, the calculator would take that income earned across 40 weeks, and spread it across the entire year, and would give you the subscription rate from the bracket down, $7.51 per fortnight.

If you wish to join and pay by credit card or direct debit, where it asks for your fortnightly income, choose the subscription rate bracket that corresponds to the calculator result (e.g. $7.51 → 530.95 – 1,061.90).

How can I pay as a non-annualised support staff member?

If paying by credit card or direct debit, select the bracket that matches the calculator output. Payments continue through holiday periods.

NZEI Te Riu Roa does not receive information from worksites about income, annualisation status, or role changes. If your rate needs to change, contact the membership team.

If you work at a school, you can pay via EdPay payroll deductions. These are taken only when you are paid.

  • Direct debit / credit card: regular payments based on annualised income.
  • Payroll deductions: payments fluctuate with actual earnings and stop when unpaid.

The support staff calculator will download as an Excel file.
