[FAQ] Subscription rates for relievers

What are the subscription rates for relievers?

NZEI Te Riu Roa subscription rate brackets are the same for everyone. However, if you are a reliever or otherwise have varying hours and income, there are some options available to you.

NZEI Te Riu Roa does not receive information from worksites about income, hours, annualisation status, or when members leave roles. If you pay by credit card or direct debit and your rate needs to change, contact the membership team.

Relievers in primary, intermediate and area schools:

If you are a reliever at one or more primary/intermediate/area schools, we recommend payroll deductions through EdPay.

Paying via payroll deduction means your subscription rate will be automatically calculated and deducted from your pay each fortnight based on what you earn. EdPay will automatically adjust your rate as needed, ensuring you only pay based on actual earnings and no deductions are made when you do not work.

Do you also work as a reliever in a secondary school?

NZEI Te Riu Roa covers teachers at primary/intermediate/area school levels. If you are also relieving at secondary schools, consider joining the PPTA (https://www.ppta.org.nz/). If this applies, do not use EdPay deductions, as they calculate based on total income across sectors.

If you wish to pay by credit/debit card or direct debit, select the subscription rate that matches the lower end of your typical fortnightly earnings. These payments cannot be paused during periods of no work.

Relievers in early childhood centres:

If you are a reliever in the ECE sector, select the subscription rate that matches the lower end of your typical fortnightly earnings. These payments cannot be paused during periods of no work.
