About the role:
We are looking for a kaimahi who can work both with our Miro Māori and tauiwi members as a Takawaenga |Field Officer, based from our Ōtautahi tari. You will take a union organising approach to working with our members to meet their professional and industrial aims.
Our Miro Māori members work across Te Waipounamu in both reo Māori and reo Pakehā workplaces. As a Field Officer you will work with members in education worksites (currently in Ellesmere and Christchurch).
You will report to a Lead Organiser and the Kaihautu Takawaenga, who work closely together to ensure consistency. The role includes:
Travelling around the region and across the motu visiting your assigned worksites and/ or member groups (usually three days a week)
Planning for regular contact and visibility for your assigned worksites and/ or member groups
Implementing union campaign and sector strategies to achieve union goals in your region
Identifying, development and coaching of member leaders to increase their impact in their union.
Skills and experience:
Strong relational skills to manage worksite, group and member leader relationships
Involvement in community networks
Experience working in union or social-impact organisation
A current full driver’s licence
An interest in publicly-funded education, commitment to Te Tiriti, unionism and social justice
Demonstrated ability to work flexibly to achieve team goals, as well as work independently across a large region.
