National Executive Membership
Nominations for the National Executive positions are now open. According to rule 22 of NZEI Te Riu Roa constitution, any full or provisional members of the Institute are eligible to be nominated and elected to serve as National Executive members of the Institute. Please refer to the guidelines outlined in the constitution for the nomination process (rule 22 - section F) here. The deadline for submissions is Monday 20 July 2026.
The National Executive of the Institute comprises of:
1 National President
1 National Immediate Past-President or where applicable, a Senior Executive Member
1 National Vice-President
8 other members of the Institute:
- 3 nominated from among the general membership
- 1 nominated from among the early childhood sector
- 1 nominated from among the primary teaching sector
- 1 nominated from among the support staff sector
- 1 nominated from among the school principals
- 1 who is an employee of the Ministry of Education, and who is either an education support worker, a behaviour support worker, a communication support worker, a service manager or a field staff member
The total number on the National Executive is 11.
The elections will occur during the Institute's Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 29 September electronically. All elections for these positions will be conducted based on a simple majority.
Nominations
Nominations for National President, National Vice-President and an additional eight National Executive members shall be made on the Fifth Schedule to the constitution here
Nominations for all positions shall be clearly marked either:
- NATIONAL PRESIDENT
- NATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT
- GENERAL MEMBERSHIP BALLOT
- EARLY CHILDHOOD SECTOR BALLOT
- PRIMARY TEACHING SECTOR BALLOT
- SUPPORT STAFF SECTOR BALLOT
- SCHOOL PRINCIPALS’ BALLOT
- MINISTRY OF EDUCATION POSITION BALLOT
Nominations must be received by Monday 20 July (no later than ten weeks before the first day of Annual General Meeting)

Please note that the Fifth Schedule allows for both branches and individuals to nominate National Executives.
Photograph and CV – National Executive Nominees
All candidates should submit a photograph along with their CV. Such photographs should be in colour and be a ‘head and shoulder’ shot. Photos and CVs along with the nomination forms can be sent electronically to:

All photos supplied, as part the CV, are also used in a display intended for the foyer of the Energy Events Centre. Photos are used as part of the nomination process for voters to become more familiar with nominees.
