Member Advisory Officer. Fixed-term, 0.8FTE role

About the role:

 

We are looking for a Member Advisory Officer to join our Te-Whanganui-a-Tara based team.  You will report to a Lead - Member Support Centre and your role includes:  

 

  • Answering calls and emails from members seeking advice on their employment or membership

  • Analysing individual issues and giving advice based on legislation, collective agreements and union organising skills

  • Documenting interactions within the CRM (membership database)

  • Positively contributing within a small team to ensure queries are answered in a timely manner and while phone lines are open (8.30am-5pm)

  • Using call skills to ensure a positive member experience

     

Skills and experience:

 

 

  • An understanding of employment/industrial context in Aotearoa

  • Experience working in union or social-impact organisation

  • Working in a team with rostered breaks to ensure phone lines are covered

  • An interest in publicly-funded education, commitment to Te Tiriti, unionism and social justice

  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly to achieve team’s work, as well as work independently on member’s issues

  • Analytical skills to identify issues in complex scenarios, as well as numerical confidence in working through backpay or underpayment issues.

  • Experience in an operational, customer-service or call-centre environment

  • Empowering individuals with the skills to solve their workplace problems.

NZEI Te Riu Roa is a Te Tiriti based organising and campaigning union of members who work together locally and nationally to achieve the best possible education system for tamariki and the people who work in it.
