National Officers and National Executive Membership

According to rule 25 of NZEI Te Riu Roa constitution any full or provisional members of the Institute are eligible to be nominated, elected, or serve as National Officers or National Executive members.

The National Executive of the Institute comprises of:


1 National President

1 National Immediate Past-President or where applicable, a Senior Executive Member

1 National Vice-President

3 Members of Te Reo Areare selected biennially in accordance with procedures
established by Te Kahui Whetu

8 other members of the Institute:

  • 3 nominated from among the general membership
  •  1 nominated from among the early childhood sector
  • 1 nominated from among the primary teaching sector
  • 1 nominated from among the support staff sector
  • 1 nominated from among the school principals
  • who is an employee of the Ministry of Education, and who is either an education support worker, a behaviour support worker, a communication support worker, a service manager or a field staff member

The total number on the National Executive is 14.

All elections are conducted for these positions are on a simple majority basis.

Nominations for National President, National Vice-President and an additional eight National Executive members shall be made on the Fifth Schedule to the constitution here.

Nominations for all positions shall be clearly marked either:

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP BALLOT
EARLY CHILDHOOD SECTOR BALLOT
PRIMARY TEACHING SECTOR BALLOT

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION POSITION


Nominations must be received by 22 July (no later than ten weeks before the first day of Annual Meeting)

Please note that the Fifth Schedule allows for both branches and individuals to nominate national officers.

Photograph and CV – National Executive Nominees

All candidates should submit a photograph along with their CV. Such photographs should be in colour, and be a ‘head and shoulder’ shot. Photos and CVs along with the nomination forms can be sent electronically to:
elections@nzei.org.nz

All photos supplied, as part the CV, are also used in a display intended for the foyer of the Energy Events Centre. Photos are used as part of the nomination process for voters to become more familiar with nominees.
